First look inside – the ‘Peculiar’ decal was an extra item added for subscribers who left a review on Cratejoy for this box.

OVERVIEW OF CONTENTS

This month featured a Tim Burton theme:

We have the monthly info card that outlines the contents of the box and inspirations behind each item.

Nail Decals from YouPolish ($7.65 USD for 55-70 decals, so this would be approx. $3USD?): I’ve never used these before, so this should be interesting…I don’t do much with my nails, but I don’t mind experimenting to see how this looks!

I just hope they come off easy – last time I had my nails professionally done, I didn’t realize you couldn’t remove shellack with regular nail polish remover and I refused to pay the $10 to go back and have it stripped, so I had to grow out my nails for 6 months or so before it was gone, lol.

5

I love this cute little bag that the jewelry is stashed inside – I keep all these from my various boxes so when I’m giving presents to people, I can pop them in one of these!

7

Edward Scissorhands Earrings (found on Etsy at $1.73 AUD): I like the ornate look to these scissors, gives them a Gothic feel consistent with the movie. I don’t have the best luck with silver jewelry from subscription boxes as they tarnish quickly, but these will at least look snazzy for a little while.

8

Beetlejuice Necklace (on Amazon for $19 USD or Etsy for $21.55 AUD): haha, YES, this suits my morbid sense of humor perfectly, I love it!

8b

Inside the ‘handbook’ – no secrets are revealed to us mortals, alas. You can insert images of friends, family, cats, dogs, whatever you please, though.

9

The Nightmare Before Christmas Bracelet (similar bracelets with more charms between $13.22$27.80 AUD). This is such a cute charm bracelet! I’m not even in this fandom, but I think the bracelet is pretty cool. 🙂

9b

A closer look at the charms: I recognize Jack Skellington, and I imagine the other charms – Christmas Tree, pumpkin, snowflake and bat (?) – relate to the Christmas theme of the movie as opposed to certain characters.

The only downside for me is that one of the beads came loose somehow, so I’m going to have to see if I can slip that back on and bend the metal loop to make sure it doesn’t escape again.

10

Corpse Bride Candle by Fragranced Fandoms ($4.87 AUD): Antique sandalwood, rose, and English garden scented candle.

10a

I love getting candles in subscription boxes, so I flailed for joy when I saw this item! It’s such a pretty deep blue color and I adore the artwork on the tin!

10b

I never seem to pick up on the same scent as what the candles advertise, but it smells good regardless. 😉

VERDICT

Quality of Curation: Pretty awesome! I’m not a fan of the decals that are in a lot of boxes, but the idea of nail decals intrigues me, so every item this month appeals to me! ❤ The candle is a new item to this box, and I’m so pleased to have that included. 😀 In terms of fandoms, I think the main highlights from Tim Burton’s movie reel have been included, although he’s had such a long and distinguished career that you’re never going to please fans of all his works – an Alice in Wonderland or Batman item would’ve been cool, but at least the obvious tributes are here. 🙂

Worth It? From my guesstimating, I’d say the value of this box is just over $40 AUD. I really like the contents and if I was an American, it would be great return on my investment, but as an Australian, the cost of international shipping plus the exchange rate ended up costing me $39.27 AUD. It’s too hard to justify continuing my subscription, so I’ve had to end it. 😦 I’m going to miss getting my dose of geeky goodness, but at least I have the Harry Potter box as my last, so that will be exciting!

      • Lol that’s a good idea! I used to be subscribed to Loot Crate, but I found that the stuff they were sending was just really bleh. So next year I am going to look at owlcrate or something like that 🙂

        • Loot Crate’s the cheapest to Australia, but I haven’t found it worthwhile. Every month, a day before the cut-off date of the 19th, spoilers surface online – I’ve never been tempted to buy after seeing what’s in the box. :/

I’ve always wanted an Owlcrate, but they work out to $60+ so I haven’t bitten the bullet. One of these days…I’m so jealous of all the amazing overseas book boxes available to Americans and Brits. *wistful sigh*

          • Ohhh Owlcrate is expensive…man!!! I know, the top side of the world really do have all the awesome stuff!! I should start up my own Owlcrate type of business for down here…I’m just really not that driven lol!!
